Community Involvement
As you can imagine, we’re really passionate about chocolate at Purdys Chocolatier.
We also strongly believe in supporting our communities, both at home in Canada and in our rural cocoa-growing communities. Through donations, community involvement and fundraising programs, Purdys is proud to have given over $5.5 million back to our communities.
In 2019, we launched our Dear Santa campaign and raised over $30,000 for SickKids Foundation. In 2020, we partnered with BC Children’s Hospital, Alberta Children’s Hospital, Stollery Children’s Hospital, Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Manitoba, and SickKids to raise over $160,000! We’re so proud of how the campaign has grown, and can't wait to continue to make Christmas a little brighter for kids in need.
Since 2012, our customers have helped Purdys raise over $90,000 for Variety – The Children’s Charity in partnership with Global BC. Variety – The Children’s Charity provides healthcare grants, mobility/communication equipment and life-enriching educational experiences for children with special needs in British Columbia.
The Flavelle family has always valued the importance of play for children, particularly opportunities for kids to spend time outdoors. In 2016, the family donated the Flavelle Family Wellness Park to the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. This beautiful outdoor space gives young patients and their families an area to relax, recharge and play during their stay at BCCHF.
The Flavelles continue to support other community organizations such as the Pacific Autism Family Network Foundation (which aims to support the full lifespan needs of individuals and their families affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder) and the Take a Hike Foundation, a full-time alternative education program that engages at-risk youth through a unique combination of adventure-based learning, academics, therapy and community involvement.
Keith's Hut was built in the memory of Keith Flavelle by his friends and family in 1988. It was established in the tradition of public mountaineering shelters of the Coast Mountains, as an inspiration and focal point for getting out there to enjoy activities such as skiing and climbing. It is open to one and all on a first come first serve basis.
We encourage and support our employees’ own fundraising initiatives through paid volunteer time or our donation matching program. We also host many employee fundraising drives (charity run/walks, bake sales, bottle drives) that help raise funds for many local charities or special sustainable cocoa projects such as the Sayoubakro Primary School Expansion in Ivory Coast.
